Thermal Labels (Direct thermal Labels)

Thermal labels are heat sensitive labels that do not require a ribbon when printing with a barcode label printer. It has good short-term resistance against moisture, fat, oil, alcohol etc.

The Special nature of the thermosensitive coating requires that minimum heat should be used unless directly printing on the label. Thermal labels have excellent tack and adhesion performance on a wide range of substrates including a polar, cardboard, plastic films and slightly rough and curved surfaces.

Summary

BASICS

Thermal – direct thermal label stock will change colour (usually black) when heated. A heating element in the shape of numbers or letters can be used to create an image on the label. Custom labels can easily be made on location in this way. A disadvantage is durability, because another heat source can ruin or obscure the image, or it may fade completely over time. 

The typical life span of the Direct Thermal Label is around 2 years (depending on the application or environmental conditions) is a limitation, however in the right application, it can be a cost effective solution as in most cases.

Direct Thermal Only printer models are available at a better price than thermal transfer printers and no ribbon is required to print on the thermal label material type.


SUITABLE APPLICATION USE

  • Direct Thermal labels are designed for use in direct thermal printing systems where limited or short-term resistance against moisture, fat, oil, alcohol  etc is required
  • As with all self-adhesive materials, this product should be tested thoroughly under end-use conditions to make sure it meets the requirements of the specific application
